One of only a two made on the basis of a D5 model for the Danish championship and used by team Fisker. Today this is the only example left. The motorcycle is in quite decent conditions, so a meticulous procedure of conservation will be carried out
1) The original state of the Tomos "Fisker"
2) I managed to remove the engine and fuel tank only this weekend. Nevertheless the geometry of the nicely executed tubular frame is already seen.
3) I've carried out some more work. I managed to completely strip down the motorcycle. All of the parts were removed.
All the cables and wires were stored separately and prepared for cleaning.
The engine is now sitting on the bench and will be the last part to be opened, checked, cleaned, repaired to working conditions, put back together and finally installed in a finished rolling chassis.
The chassis will undergo the procedure of conservation first. Slowly all the bits and pieces will be installed back on it. those parts that were installed in recent unprofessional interventions will be replaced with original parts or parts reproduced from original samples.
I'll be able to show you the cleaned SSI 18 Dell'Orto carburettor next week...
4) Finally the restoration has begun. You can see the beautiful Dell'Orto SSI 18 cleaned and taken apart in the two pictures.
I found out that the carb has been bored out to 21,35mm. I guess it must have made a great power difference from the original 18mm bore ;)

5) The frame and some other parts were sandblasted. What I found out is that many, at least half, of the frame welds have been made with brass. I had a chance to see that the frame was made by a very skilled craftsman...
Hi to you all again. I have to apologize for the long period of non-activity. My laptop got stolen in December with all the work (no backup...), so I had to dedicate all my time to recuperate some of the projects that were lost in the theft.
Finally I have managed to make some more work on the bike. Due to a very deteriorated state of many of the parts (frame, fork,...paint) I have decided to make a partial restoration of the "Fisker" special. I will keep some parts in their original state. I believe that a very nice result will be obtained in this way.
...and the finished carb waiting to be installed back on the engine.
The rear swinging arm and the front mudguard are ready for cataphoretic treatment.
The front fork is ready for zinc plating.
The engine is mechanically in a great condition (I already managed to open it to verify), but it is very dirty...
... I tried to clean the cylinder and cylinder head with some industrial cleaners, but with poor results. Sandblasting with glass pearls was the only way. The rest of the engine is now soaking. I'll report on the results next week.
6) This week I present you the parts that just came from the cataphoretic treatment. They came out great and are ready to be sent to the painter.
The tin parts are now fully protected from corrosion and ready to be painted in black gloss paint. We will use nitro based paints since the original was painted in the same way.
7) I have finished cleaning the engine covers and engine blocks with other aluminium parts this weekend.
The parts were really dirty. The grease was hardened and only a lot of patiente and modern chemistry managed to do the job.
The engine partially assebled after polishing the aluminium blocks and small repairs on the engine internals...
...and the final result. Not bad if you compare it to the original state! (minor parts: bolts, washers,... still missing)
Back again... I actually managed to do some work during the previous weekends but not enough to make a decent update on the page. I can show you some good progress now. The frame, front fork and rear swing arm are assembled...
...the whole is fitted on the cleaned wheels (the Continental racing tyres are still the original ones!!). The engine is also a nice addition to this weekends progress!
You can now see the choices that I've made so far; what parts I kept in their original state and which ones were restored. It is my belief that this was the right approach since there will be no doubt about the originality of the bike and its components in the future. This restoration/presesrvation job is also a good demonstration of my relationship with history...
What more to say. Finally!! I have finished the Fisker D5. I'm sorry that I kept you waiting for such a long time for this last update on this project. It has been very busy for me. The bike fired up almost immediately and I managed to bring it to about 11.000 rpm. The sound is terrific!
WHAT NEXT? Well the only remaining original SEVER 50 with DMGP Rolling chassis and a Kreidler engine is already on the bench (thanks Jeroen for the engine!!! and original SEVER cylinder - I'll write you an email soon but I'm loosing my head here because of work...forgive me). I also started to build up Seeley Mark3 G50 racing bike to use next season... So... Keep following!
